Same Old Soccer Look

Heather grey Gap T-shirt. Light blue men's Gap shorts. Big red ring. River sandals slide. But it carried over rather sophisticated for sushi dinner and a speech and debate tournament.

Peasant Day

On Friday there was such hope the repair man would finally show that no one was using the phone and everyone stayed home not to miss him. No one came so we gave up hope then he showed up at one just before we were about to leave on some errands as two kids were home for the day also.
Feeling a little blah the perfect anecdote is the peasant blouse because it always looks fresh and pretty. But I had to iron it in the hundred degree weather but it was worth it.
Thinking more about the Tea I forgot to mention the accessories of a scarf from a street vendor in nyc of Rome attractions in lilacs and golds with some highlights of blue. It was tied very loosely to a little black purse that literally fell off a truck in Brooklyn for one of my Birthdays when I was pregnant because two other much bigger bags fell off too. An artist friend worked as a trim designer for an accessories company and had these great samples that are still my favorite bags.
But the other women at the Tea looked pretty amazing and I will share their looks tomorrow.

LBD for the Tea

That is Little Blue Dress was perfect for the hundred degree outdoor Tea. Unfortunately I forgot a hat but not to worry umbrellas of every stripe decorated the backyard of five massive circular tables. The hostess went all out with a teapot theme bunching them as centerpieces, some stuffed with flowers including a fun collection of teapots displayed on their own table.
The little blue dress has the perfect neckline... the same one I have been wearing all summer. I have to find the designers' name printed in rust ink on the hem and post her here. I met her at a flea market listening to her bemoan the pitfalls of trying to get these super cute lightweight cotton dresses into stores.
This time I wore Kenneth Cole chunky black sandals from at least ten years ago. Though they are charcoal with a faint snakeskin print with three little buckles. Funny I did not wear them much until this year and now they seem to go with everything. Finally got to wear a big necklace by the jewelry designer Heather Colmar of a rust colored geode on a circular chain. My mother was wearing the same jewelry designers' more refined style necklace.
Later, on this hot sweaty day I wore another IM white crinkled cotton blouse from three years ago over a yellow cami and navy Ann Taylor pencil skirt that sits on the hips with white stitching all over the details giving it the ultimate put together sporty look. Comfort and coolness was essential so we paired this outfit with Sketcher huaraches and hoops. Big red ring.

River Sandals need a vacation

Ahhh, the river sandals could only be cool for someone living on a beach commune. But oh so comfortable in there sturdiness, nevertheless my "look" was vastly improved by not wearing them today. Instead stuck by the old standby of green and white T and blue shorts casual but crisp look. Missing not having a job today but made three podcasts to upload here fantasising about the exposure of the clothes making process being TMI or interesting or at least humorous?

Tomorrow get to show some stuff at a good luncheon of many artists.

Not Anna Wintour Blues

If only I had a magazine to run and an unlimited budget to spend on clothes. This day I awoke to an opportunity to workout in my new favorite orange shorts with white racing stripes and the black Champion workout top from Target. Although it was a good workout I had to stay home as much as possible waiting for the repairman that never showed up, wearing a royal blue and black horizontal striped boys v-neck t-shirt from Old Navy, a hand-me-down from the boys, and the white baggy shorts hitting at the knee with Indian beaded necklaces wrapped around the wrist, woven colorful friendship bracelet, hoops, and the big red ring.

Hot, Muggy and Thoughts of Fall

Hot is an understatement around here. Fire season is more than upon us as of today Santa Ana winds in the forcast and all we want to do is dress nice, but can't. Started the day with a big oversized t-shirt with the local college name plastered across the front of it and orange Puma shorts going for a run, walk with the stroller brigade.
Later, after showering had to go with only a blue cami until time to add another layer of an old I.M. from Target five years ago of blues and green circles and lines print shirt for lunch out. A sloppish look cause I barely buttoned the blouse and wore yesterdays cargo shorts, earrings and hair clips.
But that all changed when I had to go out this evening to an air-conditioned professional type enviroment. There is an Old Navy shirt, black with white pinstripes in threes that I see on men all the time although this one is a woman's shirt and it looks really good. But I wore the river sandals and baggy white weird length chinos, that hit just below the knee so I fold up the three inch hem one fold directly over the knee. The clips stayed and so did the hardly buttoning shirt feeling over an old tired cami of all day. Time to do laundry or just too rushed to change?

Tuesday's Safety/ Wednesday Out There and Safe

The work out wear has some strategies for comfort and safety as well. I wore a neon cobalt blue microfiber-sweat wicking-shirt to run a few miles. I was running on a lonely stretch and feel the bright color and loose hair make it more difficult for a weirdo to accost me. It also helps to carry a big aluminum water bottle. I think my fear is justified as I only saw men and a pair of women on this stretch of dirt, so I won't be doing that again anytime soon. Oh yeah, there was a woman with a big German Sheppard, the perfect accessory for a run. I wore the running clothes all day and it was fine.

Wednesday
Aha, luncheons are the best especially with creative friend types. Finally something really cool was in order. A deconstructed jacket of denim I made, over the double tank and skinning shorts, with black flat sandals. The jewelry was minimal of silver chains, big green/black ring and berry colored drop earrings. I received a few compliments and a few criticisms on my shorts. But an overall fun lunch but had to make a quick change into the heather grey T for an evening meeting that is always perfectly safe.

Back to basics to start the week

Khaki shorts, Pumas, White Gap T-shirt, St Christopher necklace, matte gold hoop earrings, with one additional development for a more formal look, the charcoal grey tunic length sweater, done. Laptop bag accessory in orange and green quilted upholstery fabric to carry the laptop around.

Church

It was a cooler day finally. We talked about going to church without the kids since two were still sleeping and one was not home. The hubby put on a long sleeve blue shirt that inspired me to break out the big long denim circle skirt from Isaac Mizrahi's Target collection six years ago. I needed a fitted top but something appropriate for church. Also, we were heading to the in-laws for a birthday celebration in the early afternoon. So I dug the maroon clogs, with the cut-out top, way out of the back of the closet, and luckily found the little blue tube sockets to wear with the shoes. Put on a canary yellow cami under an aqua marine Lycra long sleeved, v-necked top, letting the cami show out the bottom and found the big red ring with the yellow and blue flower design. The blue shirt was the happening color at church worn by a smattering of women and men. The outfit was comfortable, dressy and casual enough for the party. A great day.

Friday melds into where did Saturday Go?

Throwing on a double muscle tank-cringe from the wife beater name-of black under white with the boy sky blue Gap shorts, necklace and Pumas I was ready to go. It was going to reach the upper nineties and my double layer seemed a little confining but it was comfortable enough. Nevertheless I went to the sewing machine to stitch it together all stretched out in a loops design. It worked somewhat but needs more embellishment later to avoid an overall too sexy look.

The next day, Saturday, was a blur of a repeat outfit of green and white striped t-shirt, blue shorts, no jewelry, just big honking Coleman water jug, camping chair, umbrella, hammer, lounge-lizard and belly-bag to take me through the day in the heat!
Later, for date night donning an Old Navy orange sheer cargo blouse over orange lace cami, half way buttoned with long heart necklace, old Gap jeans with big bells and Pumas.

9/11 after eight years we did not talk about being there

Woke up, got out of bed around 5:15 and somehow after the shower put on the cool men's shorts from the Gap in light blue, on sale for around ten bucks, knee length, going perfectly with a green and white 1/2 striped T of thin jersey with a pocket and the reboks. This outfit lasted allll day helped by a great hair day. Took me on the miles in the car, a big walk with a lot of moms, and miles of errands, and that is it over, at around ten. Caught by my daughter writing yesterday's blog she had something to say way more excited than this.

The girl says….

What I was wearing …

A shawl with matching underwear , a black card board hat and ribbons for my teeth. I did not realize my eyes were sparkling from the glitter until I looked in the mirror. My feet were painted rainbows and had on flip flops the size of a big painting. They flipped and flopped and flipped and flopped. A Glove made of peacocks feathers and a goats pelt on one hand. A headband under my hat, again made out of cardboard. On the other hand bracelets that did not fit me made of jewels and monopoly pieces. I balanced a jug of water on my shoulders and a pet koala on my back. I had little earrings as big as an apple times two. They were made from shoes but more sparkly. I had three rings on one hand, the other twelve. I had one nose ring and a bright, bright green bag over my shoulder with imprints of monkeys and little fish all over the cover. On my clothes there were pictures of houses and America actual size. My pants were regular, what a shame! …and that is what I was wearing.

The White T-Shirt

The white T-shirt was what yesterday was all about. It got me through the whole day from eight until nine. All the kids started school late coincidentally so I had time to get dressed in the T with the favorite khaki shorts and men's Pumas I found on sale for twenty dollars marked down from around ninety. The St Christopher around my neck throughout a day of driving over the same road at least eight times and another road at least four times. Cooked a great dinner of chicken, brown rice and squash that everyone ate. It was my chauffeur outfit that carried into Welcome Back to School night. Someone even complimented the shoes. An overall good day.

heather grey

On Tuesday it was all about heather grey, starting with the fact that my favorite top is an oversized Gap cami that can be worn under almost anything. It adds comfort in its looseness and crotch length creating a skirt or peplum effect under a tighter more fitted T. Once we were home from the beach the day before, I put it on, slept in it and kept it on to get kids ready for school but did not actually leave the house in it. Just put on my favorite work out shorts with it and stayed inside, entertained my neighbor across the street in it, held her baby, and keeping with the grey casual attitude had not even brushed my teeth until it became time to shower around two only to replace the heather grey cami with a heather grey classic Gap t-shirt. Looking perfectly put together with a silver medalion of St Christopher falling just above the waist with my favorite cut offs, hemmed, mens Gap cargo shorts that still comfortably on the hips with reboks was ready to go pick up kids from two schools, pick up team jerseys, go to two soccer practices, and a little treat from Panera's, out to Borders and home again to serve crock pot dinner of stew by 9:00.

Sunday September 6, 2009

What I was wearing. Last night was an art opening where on most terms would have been perfect for something a little outrageous especially since I am a fashion designer but sometimes that is the curse of my existence. What do I wear?

I love clothes and place way too much importance on them. But I swear they have made or destroyed my life at various junctures. I still have nightmares over not packing the knit XO Love dress to a wedding in Malta when I was a little past thirty. Was that my prime?

Isn’t my prime now in my fiftieth year? I know I am not old just retro. If my seventy nine year old mother thought I was feeling old she would bemoan the wasted attitude on feeling old. Her refusal to let herself get old is her youthful beautiful appeal.

I wore a crinkly white blouse from years ago Isaac Mizrahi at Target. It is a great blouse but is a bit Michelin style. The under top a laced lined cameo in orange (every dork was wearing orange) and khaki great fitting shorts from the Gap were dwarfed by the BIG blouse. Top it off, my niece with a decidedly upward mobile dress style gave me some fuchsia flats with gold trim attached making my ensemble missing some more jewelry or make-up (None worn but the rings under eyes concealor)

What I could have worn was the T-shirt I just made from an Illustrator program of a drawing my husband made in the eighties would have been very cool and fresh on the hundred-degree day.

I just want to iron all my clothes and make outfits for the week then team them up for where I should go.

Monday September 7, 2009

Last night was a birthday party for my brother in-law. He always makes a fabulous meal served outdoors under a grand oak tree. So what did I wear…. a thin cobalt blue t-shirt dress with a beautiful neckline that fits just right. It was perfect for the impromptu bbq across the street a few weeks ago worn with black silver rhinestone high heeled sandals and no make-up feeling rocky mountainous since we had just got back the day before from vacation.

But last night I had on some pedal pusher length white chino shorts with it instead of the athletic looking red bicycle shorts I had worn the last time until right before we left and my husband said you have such beautiful legs (thinking I would pull off the beauteous look of a few weeks past) you should show them off. What he did not realize is that I was planning to wear black flats and the whole beautiful athletic look would have been lost on his family since we were going to be sitting down stuffing our faces, none the less I wore the constricting girdle like bike shorts and had an ok time.

Earlier today on Labor day we went to the beach wearing my beach uniform consisting of black lycra short shorts, a forest green board short over them with a bright turquoise and white work out top with shelf bra and white trim. The top is extra long and works as my version of a tankini. Flattering to my long torso, wide hipped body. The final layer is a white cotton peasant Mexican blouse with long sleeves of white lace trim and circle floppy cuffs.
